Interesting. You say it's the oldest section, do you know exactly how old the buckeye trail is? Corey

The greenway plan and Commission were begun in 1974 - an early national example of a public greenway - and construction of Buckeye began soon after. I believe the construction I describe in the post was occurring in 1975. East Raleigh was, and continues to be a well-integrated and diversely used area, and deserved this pedestrian connection with the major artery of "Downtown Boulevard" (now Capital). The longest continuous stretch of the greenway, from East Buckeye to Oak Park at west Glenwood, bisects the heart of old Raleigh and tours it's most commercial and industrial areas. This is one reason I love it so much. Thanks for your inquiry, John

I really enjoyed reading your blog, and I hope you continue to make enlightening posts. There are too few Raleigh Greenway resources as nice as your's on the net.

I think I'll park at the playground:
Atlantic Ave. (Next to Murray Supplies)
Capital Blvd and Hodge Rd
Lockwood Playground on Crabtree Blvd

Here's the map link if you have a canoe.

See you on the greenway,
